You know that part in Mission Impossible where the voice says, "Your mission, should you choose to accept it...."?? Well, MY mission is to inspire you to sew, whether you're a beginner or a veteran sewist!! I want to share my passions - sewing, fabric, and vintage sewing machines - to encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and try something new.
I want to show you how to do what you want to do, using the same tools that our grandmothers (and great-grandmothers!) used to create their wardrobes and sew for their families. They, of course, did this out of necessity. We have the luxury to shop in our jammies on the internet, and find almost anything we want and have it delivered to our door within days. Our grandparents had to either wait for a trip to the city to find something suitable (if they could afford it) or make it themselves.
In the 1970's when I attended Junior High School, all of the girls were required to take Home Economics. Very sexist, I know. But - I learned so much and excelled at making my first REAL piece of clothing from a pattern. It was a plaid skirt, and I even managed to match the plaid design and it fit beautifully. I was smitten.
Over the years, I've made a bassinet set and maternity clothes, a few cute outfits for my children, any number of curtains, hemmed a ton of jeans, made a few quilts, tailored a wedding gown and created toys for little ones to play with. And now, I'd like to pass on what I've learned and maybe learn a few new things as well.
Join me while we sew!
